TX Logistik with new connection between Lower Rhine and Sweden
Troisdorf, 17 November 2020 – TX Logistik AG is expanding its rail freight services to and from Scandinavia. Since October, the Mercitalia Group company, which specializes in pan-European transport services, has been running three weekly services from Kaldenkirchen in the Viersen district to Malmö and Eskilstuna and back. The route is mainly used to transport trailers, for all kinds of goods.
“The new connection not only strengthens TX Logistik’s European activities across the Öresund Bridge, it also shows how rail freight transport is the solution for safe and environmentally friendly logistics, even in the Corona period”, underlines Gian Paolo Gotelli, CEO of TX Logistik.
The route runs from the rail terminal in Kaldenkirchen via Padborg and Copenhagen to the combined transport terminal in Malmö and Eskilstuna. Kaldenkirchen is located in the triangle between Venlo, Düsseldorf and the Rhine-Ruhr conurbation. The Railterminal is only a few hundred meters from the German-Dutch border. “With this link we are connecting the economically important Benelux region with the Scandinavian region,” emphasizes Bernd Weisweiler, Director Business Development at TX Logistik. “The new corridor between Western and Northern Europe ideally complements our network”.
TX Logistik is responsible for the complete traction. At the German-Danish border in Padborg the change of train driver will take place. There, the Swedish subsidiary TX Logistik AB takes over or hands over. “In this way we produce all services on the complete route under our own management – with our own train drivers and our own equipment”, emphasizes Albert Bastius, COO of TX Logistik. Specially equipped multi-system locomotives are used along the complete route over the Öresund Bridge between Denmark and Sweden. TX Logistik is one of the few companies that has these special locomotives in its fleet. The new connection is operated as an open train system. The main customer is the Dutch Westerman Group.
Up to 38 semi-trailers fit on the train, with a huge saving of CO2 emission. About half of the trailers transported on this route from Germany to Sweden are destined for the Malmö region. The other half will be transported by TX Logistik to Eskilstuna, about 100 kilometers west of Stockholm. This new connection complements the railroad logistics company’s domestic network between Trelleborg, Malmö and Eskilstuna.
The new route has started with three round trips per week, with concrete chances for future development.
