TX Logistik launches new connection between Leipzig and Verona
Troisdorf, 7th February 2017, TX Logistik AG (TXL) continues to expand its rail freight traffic services between Germany and Italy. The railway logistics company launched a new train connection between Leipzig and Verona. The route will be used in particular for transporting vehicle components, chemical products and consumer goods.
The train has a capacity of up to 36 loading units – ranging from trailers via swap bodies through to bulk and tank containers. TX Logistik will be in charge not only of traction but also of marketing the related transport capacity.
“We are providing the first non-stop connection between these two important business locations,” says Norbert Rekers, TXL’s Regional Sales Director for Central Europe. The new connection is launched with three round trips a week. The route goes via Passau and the Brenner Pass. The deadline for cargo at the DUSS terminal in Leipzig is 9 pm on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The train takes about 20 hours to cover the distance of around 900 kilometres. Goods are provided at Quadrante Europa Terminal in Verona from 5 o’clock on Wednesdays, Fridays and Mondays. For the opposite direction, cargo can be delivered in Verona up to 7:30 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays and 11:30 am on Saturdays. Goods are provided in Leipzig from 5 am on Thursdays, Saturdays and Mondays.
There are plans to increase the number of round trips as soon as possible to adjust to growing demand. The cargo transfer system NiKRASA might be used for the connection, if there is sufficient demand. TXL was involved in developing the system that allows for easy loading of non-craneable semi-trailers onto the train. Norbert Rekers considers transfer potential in particular for the connection to and from Verona to be far from exploited. Compared to transport by lorry, rail transport with three round trips a week between Leipzig and Verona cuts down CO2 emission by about 16,000 tons each year.
For TX Logistik, Verona is one of the most important hubs of the intermodal transport network. The railway logistics service provider currently operates regular connections between the economic region of Northern Italy and seven German cities as well as Falköping in Sweden and Padborg in Denmark. “This means that TX Logistik is among the leading providers of combined rail freight transport for the Brenner axis,” says Norbert Rekers.
