First Vectron locomotives from Siemens Mobility are on tracks
Troisdorf, 8 October 2024 – TX Logistik AG has get on tracks the first three of 40 modern Vectron locomotives from manufacturer Siemens Mobility, which the rail logistics company belonging to Mercitalia Logistics (FS Italiane Group) ordered in May 2023. The expansion of the vehicle fleet is an important prerequisite for TX Logistik to continue growing in intermodal and cross-border rail freight transport. The new locomotives are primarily used on the Brenner and Swiss corridors, the strategically important north-south axes in Europe.
Both corridors are heavily frequented and place high demands on the locomotives used – from tractive power and stability to cross-border system compatibility. TX Logistik has ordered the machines with various country packages. 20 Vectron locomotives will receive the country package for operation in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy and the Netherlands (D-A-CH-I-NL) and are to be handed over by the beginning of 2025. Delivery of the 20 locomotives with the equipment for the German-Austrian-Italian corridor (D-A-I) is scheduled for the end of 2025.
The decision to purchase the Vectron locomotives also underlines TX Logistik’s endeavours to further promote rail freight transport as an environmentally friendly and efficient alternative to road transport. To emphasise this and at the same time advertise the entry into intermodal transport, the first of the three Vectrons, which were handed over at the Zughotel in Braunschweig, has a special locomotive livery with the words “Start now. (Nature) Dríven by Green Passion”.
With their flexibility and performance, the new locomotives offer ideal technical prerequisites for meeting the increasing demands of European freight transport. The first two vehicles will initially be put into operation for routes in Germany, Austria and the Netherlands, followed by Switzerland and Italy, as the Italian and border route licences (Chiasso) are still pending. According to TX Logistik, the modern Vectron fleet will enable the company to significantly increase capacity on the Brenner and Swiss corridors in the medium term and further improve the efficiency and reliability of rail freight transport.
